The College Jean Zay is a public school for students between 11 and 15. We teach general subjects from class 6ème to class 3ème (each age corresponds to a class, approximately). Students come from very different social backgrounds. There’s indeed a real heterogeneity in our school, both in school and social level. Our school is made up of about 300 students and 20 teachers (about 35 people including all staff). Some of the students have a handicap, which is a language disorder. Those students are included in the regular classes but have important adaptations to make their schooling easier (their main teacher would like to participate at this project).
All the students learn English and have then the choice between Spanish and German. Our school is located in Dunkerque, which is a city in the north of France. We have a border with Belgium and the harbor of Calais (to reach England) is 20 minutes by car. We also have a beautiful beach and Dunkirk has the third-largest harbour in France.
Mister Magniez, our headmaster, has experience in that kind of project since he was working before at “Lycée de l’Europe”, which is a lycée that has participated for several years in the project Comenius then Erasmus +. He has already overseen this project and really could help us.
The teachers involved in the project, as main teachers, have also real skills to participate in the project. One of them already participated in the Erasmus Project as a student, another one is teaching about food in her school program and have a project for the school, name as follows: “eco-school and sustainable development”. We already have a program about breakfast in school.
In any case, we are a team of three main teachers to oversee the project, who have a big motivation for innovative projects, especially focused on European or international exchanges. We are not only three, but we have a whole team around us which is ready to help us and to work with the students throughout the program.
Finally, our school is focused on the outside; we have many borders: Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and we are very near from Great Britain.
