Elshorn Short Time Exchange Activities - Results.

1. Career education at our partner schools.

At each partner school students produced a presentation about career education at their own schools which was delivered at the meeting. They then compared their findings with that of the other partner schools and discussed which aspects they would like to see to improve career education at their own schools.

2.  Visit to the career market

The students prepared questions to ask during their visit to the career market. Student mentors accompanied mixed-nationality groups of students during the visit to support them explore the career market. The students had the opportunity to learn about different career paths and discussed their findings later.

3.  Eco-friendly schools

The students delivered presentations about their schools' policies on environmental issues, compared and discussed their findings. based on the presentations and discussion they had the opportunity to decide which improvements to suggest to make their schools more eco-friendly.

4.  Visit to Chocolate Museaum, Cologne

On their visit to the chocolate museum the students learned about the concept of Fairtrade companies and the production of Fairtrade goods.

5.  Visit to Auntie Olga shop, Cologne

The visit to the eco-shop helped the students to explore and understand the ideas of the zero-waste movement. In the workshop they were asked to look for zero-waste solutions to the problems caused by our consumer-lead society by finding simple ways of avoiding or at least reducing waste. For many of them, it was their first-time experience in a zero waste shop which sells only organic and Fairtrade products and is based on the idea of zero packaging.

The original idea of an ecological workshop was altered as a result of changes to the programmes of the previous project meetings and also to avoid repetition of programme activities planned for the project meeting in Jaén. The planned visit to the organic farm was also cancelled becauseHof Sondern could not accommodate such a large group. One workshop day was organised to combine three different aspects essential to our project.

6. Bootcamp

The bootcamp represented a challenge that covered the aspect of physical fitness. Here students engaged in a range of physical exercises that targeted stamina, speed, strength, coordination and skills.

7.  Cooking workshop

In another workshop session students prepared food for the final lunch using mainly local or regional products.

8.  Video workshop

In the third workshop the students were asked to produce short stop-motion videos in which they presented their knowledge acquired in the course of the project so far.

9. Fairtrade

Visit to the GEPA headquarters in Wuppertal which supply Fairtrade food and crafts from all over the world. Before their visit they will attend to a workshop on the aims and importance of Fairtrade.

10.  World Economy and Fair Trade

In this workshop the students learned about and discussed the global market and the challenges it presents for the Fairtrade market.

11. Climate Change and Environmental Conflicts

Objectives:

  1. To understand the problems related to false nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle

  2. To raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle

  3. To understand the close links between healthy and balanced nutrition and sports to increase the quality of life

  4. To research and experiment with different types of cooking

  5. To collate a range of healthy, and culturally as well as nutritionally diverse recipes

  6. To compare and evaluate the students‘ own eating habits and the partner schools‘ policies on school food and sustainability

  7. To raise awareness for sustainability and the need to reduce wastage

  8. To raise awareness of the value of sustainable regional, organic and Fairtrade goods

  9. To understand the connection between mass production and consumption and the resulting difficulties for the regional, organic and Fairtrade market

  10. To share good practice in career education, improve the school curriculum and to learn about career options in food, health and sports

  11. To encourage entrepreneurship

  12. To develop linguistic, digital and social competences
